For the past few weeks I have been working on the new brand for Bennardo Santos, and this is what I came up with.
Bennardo Santos logo has not been designed to replace the PriDegree Logo or brand – that would be impossible since the PriDegree Logo was designed as an extension of Bennardo Santos’ function of graphic design – but rather to reveal the designer behind PriDegree Designs. The Bennardo Santos logo was designed, as a personal identity of Bennardo Santos drawing from his African heritage and for those who want to get to know Bennardo Santos regardless whether they were interested in graphic design, comics, fashion, fine arts, entrepreneurship or education. Bennardo Santos is thus a personal brand and not a business brand.
For many years, I have been using trademarks as a way to organize the different functions which I do, namely: comics, fashion, arts, animation, teaching and business, to name a few. I have been doing this since 2003, however, a few years back in a design forum a designer asked me why I was I “so faceless”. At the time, I did not give much value to it, as was still building my brand, and for me it was important that potential clients identify the PriDegree logo. Now, that I have built my brand, I believe it is time to reveal the person behind the designers.
ONDEYA NE is directly translated as “I have come now” in my mother tongue – Oshiwambo. ONDEYA NE under the sub theme “the face behind it all” aims to reveal my face as a graphic designer. You might be wondering how and why? Well, for years I have been using trademarks since I was formally introduced to them in 2010. They became the face of BKDS, when I created and founded PriDegree it drew heavily from the BKDS concepts, including the use of trademarks. For the past five years, only the PriDegree Logo was used. One could bearly ever find my face as on all social media platforms and profiles only the PriDegree Logo could be seen.
The whole theme will portray the power of four, as it is PriDegree major sectoriums which are now known as the Four Kingdoms of PriDegree: Web Design, Animation, Corporate Identity and Illustrations
Some of the challenges I have encountered was find a universal form to represent the emperor of so many trademarks and functions.
