They have an identity problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Across Namibia \u2014 and much of Africa \u2014 we\u2019ve produced incredibly talented designers, writers, videographers, and artists. But very few of them lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because the system rewards execution, not ownership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Clients say: \u201cDesign this.\u201d \u201cEdit that.\u201d \u201cMake it look good.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So creatives become&nbsp;<strong>doers for hire<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2014 not thinkers in control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This reality also unfolds for corporate designers. Mostly, the manager who is not always a designer dictates the outcome of the design. Due to contracts and the chain of command, the designer has no choice but to obey even when, most times the instructions do not contribute positively to the design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I have noticed a trend where designers are forgetting their identity and disappearing into the bureaucracy of the corporate environments. A few years ago, when they were still designers, they had a vibrant portfolio, with active portfolio domains. After they get that marketing manager<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The difference is simple:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Creatives execute.
